The Learning Attitude

The Learning Attitude

2 Kings 13-14:29; Acts 18:23-19:12; Psalm 146:1-10; Proverbs 18:2-3 (click to read)

(Proverbs 18:2) Fools have no desire to learn; they would much rather give their own opinion.

I recognize this verse as one the Lord sends my on a regular basis. I would rather say this in a more positive way: When I know something good, I am excited to (share, teach, tell) it. And another reinforcement on this - the new video ads for the coming Google+ say something like we tell and share because we are excited about something, not that others need to know what I think. So this Proverbs verse really drives me to evaluate my desire to learn and grow, my willingness to put my stuff aside to gain wisdom or maturity. To me, the other passages show good examples of both positive and negative actions on this principle. The positive example the Acts passage with Apollos who clearly knows a lot about the Bible and the Christian faith, and is a gifted teacher. Yet he humbly takes instruction and correction from others - and he gains personally and "professionally." The negative is from the story of King Amaziah, who does quite a bit well, but will not take the advice of King Jehoash. He would not take instruction and suffered for that greatly. I want to and must continually remind myself that there is more to learn. I want to improve what I do and think. I want to be humbly effective for Jesus, for family, for life.

Lord Jesus - be my Teacher and Guide. By Your Spirit, lead me daily into Your Truth and Your Way. Give me wisdom, insight, courage and focus to live more completely into Your Will every day.
