Roles of Impact

Roles of Impact

2 Chronicles 33:14-34:33; Romans 16:10-27; Psalm 26:1-12; Proverbs 20:19 (click to read)

(2 Chronicles 34) 31 After Josiah had finished reading, he stood in the place reserved for the king. He promised in the LORD's name to faithfully obey the LORD and to follow his laws and teachings that were written in the book.

Most of the time, my relationship with Christ, your relationship with Christ, is focused on the personal. He is Lord, I am follower and I present myself in need of help, healing, forgiveness and connection. But there are times when the positions we have in life must enter into the relationship discussion as well, for we are stewards of position and influence. In the passage, Josiah "stood in the place reserved for the king." He owned his role and responsibility. He came to God representing his person and his position, for he was a steward of power and impact. There are roles we each have in life, and for the impact of these roles, we have a responsibility to Christ. The roles are family roles, professional roles, friendship roles, and public roles. There is no escaping the responsibility of these roles - indeed, when Jesus said "You will be my witnesses," He meant that. And we are either witnesses to God's great love, mercy, truth and justice; or we witness badly about these same attributes to others. We are witness - for the Kingdom's good or for it's injury, but we are witnesses. So I (we) are to bring our roles and positions in humble service to Christ as well. We are to step into the place reserved for our impact and fully own our responsibility, devoting our "position living" to the service of Christ, as well as devoting ourselves.

Lord - I want to own and offer to You all the roles I have. I want my personal life devoted to You and my impact devoted to Your Kingdom's good. As I reflect, pray and decide, may Your Spirit guide me to the full discipleship the my life can offer.
