Being a Follower Mean Speaking Up
Isaiah 12-14:32; 2 Corinthians 13:1-14; Psalm 57:1-11; Proverbs 23:9-11 (click to read)
(Proverbs 23) 10 Don't move a boundary marker or take the land that belongs to orphans. 11 God All-Powerful is there to defend them against you.
This verse is a "wisdom" saying that points to exactly the evil behavior listed in Isaiah as we read it. Also in many of the other prophets. Over and over again, the prophets quote God as angry at injustice and oppression of the powerful over the weak. And it strikes me that the prophets express just as much judgement on those who will not speak up when injustice is done. God is clear - He is opposed to those who do evil to others in economic and justice issues, but He is also upset with those who will not speak up and insist that economic justice, fairness for the less powerful and society care for those with no resource. I want my actions, prayers, conversations, votes (since I can vote) and energies to be directed in these justice ways.
Lord - You are clear that being a follower of Jesus involves more than avoiding evil. You also tell me to advocate and insist on justice, righteousness and compassionate care. Give me Your Eyes to see what I don't and Your Voice to speak what You desire to be said.
