Unwilling to Live His Method and Time
Jeremiah 35-36:32; 1 Timothy 5:1-25; Psalm 89:14-37; Proverbs 25:25-27 (click to read)
(Jeremiah 35) ...a lesson 14 from the Rechabite clan. Their ancestor Jonadab told his descendants never to drink wine, and to this very day they have obeyed him. But I have spoken to you over and over, and you haven't obeyed me!
This is a strong lesson for me regarding how clearly and completely I follow Christ. The goal of my following is to become like Him. The obstacles to my following are my tendency to meet the needs of my life in a time frame and method not of His Will, taking me away from being like Him. (The is a basic definition of "sin") These choices involve lack of trust in His Will and His Provision, lack of humility, lack of patience, and unwillingness to learn new ways to both cope and to experience Him. I shudder to think of the valuable lessons that slip by me because I am looking around at the shiny things of this temporal life, rather than the glory things of His Life. But slip by they have, and I trust that Jesus will send lessons and help again and again. I believe that because of the help, messages, and promises God gave to Israel and Judah through Jeremiah: again and again, year in - year out, and always ready to receive their devotion --- finally.
Thank You, Jesus, for never giving up on me. You are constantly inviting me to turn more to You, to turn out more like You. My patience and hope gives out, Yours does not. Make me more like You as I follow, learn, trust and experience each day.
