What Does the Sabbath Have to do with It?

What Does the Sabbath Have to do with It?

Mark 3 (click to read)

4 Then he asked, "On the Sabbath should we do good deeds or evil deeds? Should we save someone's life or destroy it?" But no one said a word. 5 Jesus was angry as he looked around at the people. Yet he felt sorry for them because they were so stubborn.

Someone will say "what does the Sabbath day have to do with this?" and that was exactly what Jesus was asking. On this day when a spiritual person was to devote time, reflection and activity to connecting with God and resting from the busy week (check it out - we don't do this very well), there were rules that kept them from active care for others. On that day, of all days, care for others and helping them with life (like God does - it is His Will) was sorta forbidden. But what does the Sabbath have to do with it - if it is God's Will that I help people, and give resource and aid. This is God's Will for me and for all whom He has created. If I want to do God's Wishes, the day does not matter. Indeed, Paul said the same to the Christians in Colossea. I believe I get opportunities every day to serve the Mission of Christ, and I look forward to such moments tomorrow - and every day.

Jesus - Help me to not compartmentalize my life - to separate my spiritual life off from the rest of me. Help me to serve You and Your Love for people every change I get. Help me to have Your Sense of time, effort and appropriate action. May I do a bit of Your Mission tomorrow.
